Dear Sir/Madam,
I am looking for further information on Captain Ernest A. W. Henley, i.e. where did he die and is he commemorated on a War Memorial in New Zealand? The information is to facilitate my book, "Out of the Dark-1914-1918" about the officers and men from Co. Dublin who fell in the Great War. Any help or information would be very much appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

Ken Kinsella.

The following is the information on my file and I should mention that Ernest also lost two brothers in the war.

HENLEY, ERNEST A.W. Captain. M.D. New Zealand Medical Corps.

Military Notes: He was promoted to Captain in April 1915 and died, 14th November 1918. Captain Henley’s name is not included in the website records of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. However, in the University of Dublin (Trinity College) War List, February 1922, it states that; ‘he was not accepted for foreign service owing to his health.’

Grave/Memorial Notes: He is commemorated on the Great War Memorial, Rathmichael Church of Ireland, Shankill and the headstone of the family grave, Ref; E183, Dean’s Grange Cemetery, Co. Dublin.

Family Information: Ernest entered Trinity College and was awarded an M.B. in 1901 and an M.D. in 1911. (For further family information, see Henley family of ‘Glen View’, Shankill, Co. Dublin.)
